Our Story

Three generations of fire safety expertise

Safety in Store is the online retail arm of Browne Fire & Security — a family-run fire protection business based in Co. Wexford, serving the South East and the whole of Ireland since 1978.

That's nearly five decades of hands-on experience installing, servicing, and specifying fire safety equipment in real Irish homes, businesses, and rental properties. Three generations of the Browne family have grown up in the trade — and that depth of knowledge sits behind every product we select for the Safety in Store catalogue.

We don't just sell fire extinguishers. We've spent decades fitting them, maintaining them, and seeing first-hand which ones perform when it matters. The products on this site are the ones we'd fit in our own properties.

Certifications & standards

Fire safety equipment only works if it's properly certified and correctly specified. We take that seriously:

  • EN 3 — all fire extinguishers we sell are manufactured and certified to the European EN 3 standard, the current extinguisher performance and safety standard replacing the older BS 5423

  • EN 1869 — our fire blankets meet the European standard for fire blankets used in kitchens, homes, and commercial settings

  • CE marked — all applicable products carry CE marking as required under EU regulations

  • I.S. 3218:2024 — our parent company Browne Fire & Security carries out fire alarm installation and servicing to the current Irish standard for fire detection and alarm systems in buildings, and the building regulations set out in Technical Guidance Document B 2024
